every day you showered purple flowers
I would grumble and clean
god forbid if it rained
you still showered the flowers deaf to my plea
one day i saw termites on you trunk
i tried all remedies to revive you
but you just succumbed
when they cut you it tore my heart
we all counted the rings
you had stood there for thirty five years
showering your purple flowers

now the sun scorches my yard
no flowers,no chirping of birds
squirrels look at me with disgust
my friend you were an extraordinary being
now in your place young frangipani is there
she laughs at me with her light yellow flowers
This is a true incident happened in our yard...i never realized that I would be missing a tree so much,,,but I do and every time i shed tears for my friend whom i will never meet again i remember the lesson i have learnt and that is to be selfless and give and give with no expectations..
topic: something ordinary
Very nicely shared, Arathi.
ReplyDeleteWe know the worth of things when they are no more & we miss them...
Thank You Anita:)
DeleteYou have a beautiful way of expressing Arathi. I lived in a rented house long back, which had a Mango Tree. We used to complain about it all the time... now, we miss it :)
ReplyDeleteYes we miss trees. it's easy to cut one but to grow one it takes years..thank you Nimi:)

DeleteThere is a huge tree that is a few blocks away from my home. I have seen the tree since the last 15 years. It is a part of my growing up. Now, there are houses being made near the tree. my only concern is that they don't cut the tree.
ReplyDeleteI hope they will not cut it..thanks Sakshi for stopping by:)
DeleteBeautiful expression of how we become habituated to things forget their beauty. I am sorry your tree is gone. I hope the frangipani earns your trust.
ReplyDeleteThank You..yes frangipani is coming beautifully..:)
DeleteI agree that we can mourn trees and yours looked beautiful. I like the idea that it showered purple flowers even though they had to be swept. I hope you like the new one just as much.
ReplyDeleteYes Gabriella..i try to be one with nature in my limited ways..frangipani is pretty..she will do fine:)

DeleteFlowers are good friends..we of course feel their loss...beautifully blossoming words
ReplyDeleteyes Jae Rose..flowers are indeed good friends..thank you :)
DeleteI understand your feelings here, Arathi. I have felt the same kinds of feelings when a tree has either died or has had to be cut down. It just isn't the same without it. I also still mourn the rhubarb i had to leave behind when i made my last move. I had moved it from childhood home, to next home, to next home. But this last time I wasn't able to take it with me. It traveled with me a long time, and it is sad no longer to have it.
ReplyDeleteOh .that's sad..i hope you will try to keep a new one now..fresh start may be..:)

DeleteThis is really emotional and it makes you appreciate all that is there naturally and freely given. I like the way you have painted the picture, really lovely writing.
ReplyDeletenature is our teacher..thank you :)
Deletethis is very touching Arathi..the deep emotion is so palpable here..
ReplyDeletethanks Sumana..
DeleteA tree ages just like humans.. but we might still miss them when they're gone.. here trees grow slower.. so it can be generations in formation...
ReplyDeletetrue..i especially miss when it is spring..I always loved the way the whole tree would deck up with green..also i miss all those birds who would visit the tree..i may sound too emotional..well that's me:)
DeleteI love jacaranda trees--we have many along streets in my area. I love the way your poem shows how an ordinary tree in your yard became something special once it was gone.
ReplyDeletethank you Peggy:)
DeleteI love trees and am always sad to see them go.
ReplyDeleteoh i miss the trees of the places i have been...it was in florida that we had fruit trees...and then at my parents house, the big one we used to climb...had to be taken out a couple years ago....i mourn them...
